This plot shows the overall absolute risk of developing later disorder among respondents with a prior mental disorder. Note: the X-axis limits (time since onset) were restricted to 40 years. In general, the risk of developing later disorder ranges between 5-25%. Females had a greater risk of developing later disorder compared to males with the exception of bipolar disorder, OCD and substance-use disorder.
The absolute risk is particularly high for the following pairs 40 years after the initial onset:
→ Drug abuse and nicotine dependance (~75%)
→ Conduct disorder and nicotine dependence (~75%)
→ Dysthymia and MDE (~80%)
